We are thrilled to announce a major update to the ChromoDB database, marking a pivotal milestone in our mission to provide the most comprehensive resource for chromosomal data. As of January 2026, the database has grown from 41,025 to 46,319 records, reflecting a period of intense curation and integration of high-value scientific data.
Key Highlights of the Update:
-
Expanded Data Coverage: This update incorporates the latest findings from the IAPT Chromosome Data (Taxon) (available via Zenodo) and the Mediterranean Chromosome Reports (available via Zenodo), with all entries fully updated through December 2025.
-
Taxonomic Rigor: We have conducted an extensive review of our “taxonomic building,” reinforcing our direct synchronization with POWO (Plants of the World Online)—our primary thesaurus—and GBIF. This ensures that our users are working with the most stable and widely recognized nomenclature available.
-
Pioneering Data Inclusion: In our commitment to staying at the forefront of botanical research, we have integrated data for two new genera: Erioseira and Ynesmexia. Notably, these entries are so recent that they have yet to be fully indexed by major platforms like POWO or GBIF, making ChromoDB one of the first digital repositories to provide chromosomal insights into these taxa.
Why This Matters
The addition of over 5,000 records in a single update is not just a quantitative leap; it is a qualitative enhancement of the tools available to the cytogenetic and botanical community. By bridging the gap between recent publications and digital accessibility, ChromoDB continues to serve as a vital link for researchers worldwide.
We invite you to explore the updated database and utilize the new search functionalities linked to global biodiversity authorities.
